Stray Cat

No one sees into the stray cat's eyes.
      or maybe no one is looking?
No one hears the stray cat's cries.
      or maybe no one is listening?

I just want a day of rest
  A sun to lay in
     A hand to brush away all my worries.

The stray cat's eyes are wise and aware.
Full of love, filled with care.
    Nobody cares? Everyone gets scared.

I just want someone to pet me
  Tell me that I've done a "good job"
    So then maybe I can close my weary eyes,
      and sleep knowing someone was listening.

Everyone ignores when they hear
The heartbreaking scratches on their back door.
    I think they're afraid of letting me get close

No one sees into the the stray cat's eyes.
      was there ever a moment when they were looking?
No one hears the stray cat's cries.
      was there ever a time when they were listening?

I'm beginning to forget
What I've been fighting for all along.

As the stray cat struggles on its own
     Constantly on the search for someone
To remind it what it's been fighting for.
     It continues to live its life,
     
forever       unseen.
